A place of purpose and significance, Greentree provides a unique venue to promote meaningful conversations that help advance peace by resolving divergent perspectives among peoples and nations.

The Greentree Foundation, located 20 miles from New York City, was founded by the Whitney family in 1982. Greentree organizes programs and hosts meetings for the advancement of peace, human rights, and cooperation among nations. It also makes grants to support local Long Island philanthropies and practices sustainable land and wildlife management.

In keeping with the Whitney’s vision, beginning in 1999 the Greentree Foundation embarked on transforming the Whitney’s family home from a private residence into a place where global leaders come together to work on some of the world’s most intractable problems. While at Greentree, they negotiate, share experiences, and work together in a calm and peaceful environment.

Meetings range from two to five days, with participants sleeping on the property and typically average 35 in size. Meticulously maintained with special attention to historic preservation, the Main House serves as an ideal setting for these meetings. Guests can experience meals in the Whitney’s family dining room and hold large meetings in what was once a 1920s-style movie room. Smaller breakout rooms are also available.

Larger meetings take place in the John Hay Whitney and Betsey Cushing Whitney Center for International Justice, a 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art conference facility with dining for up to 60 people, meeting rooms with video conferencing and translation capabilities, and 23 sleeping rooms, including three large suites. Similar to the Main House, the Whitney Center features beautifully-appointed spaces for breakout sessions.

While at Greentree, guests can also experience the outdoors at the Tennis Court, the Palm House, and the Walled Garden.
